Please recommend a movie you think would be great to see in class and explain what links to our theme it manifests. The more complex and nuanced the themes, the better.
Well one movie i would recomend would be "pan's Labryinth", i must admit its a bit creepy but it plays around imagination and not really knowing if the protangonist is sane or not.
The best movie I could recommend for you to see is "Inception".
"he relationship between movies and dreams has always been — to borrow a term from psychoanalysis — overdetermined. From its first flickerings around the time Freud was working on “The Interpretation of Dreams,” cinema seemed to replicate the uncanny, image-making power of the mind, much as still photography had in the decades before. And over the course of the 20th century, cinema provided a vast, perpetually replenishing reservoir of raw material for the fantasies of millions of people. Freud believed that dreams were compounded out of the primal matter of the unconscious and the prosaic events of daily life. If he were writing now, he would have to acknowledge that they are also, for many of us, made out of movies."

i would like to recommend THE MATRIX for this class because it asks us "how do you know what is real". Anything is possible in a world where you can control your reality. it explains the concept of reality in one action packet dvd :D
Mary Poppins!!! This has to do with the power of imagination and the power of manifested intentions. It's all about fantasy and also magic and will power. Theres a lot in the movie from start to end that is full of silly nonsense existing in a world between imagination and reality or perhaps just combining the two or maybe even suggesting that the two are not always seperate at all. It would be a nice follow up to Alice and wonderland since the time period and location is very similar. Anddd Julie Andrews is awesome :)
I think Pan's Labyrinth [ English Version ] is a great movie to watch in this class because its about a girl who goes into an imaginery world & this is an imaginery class.
I think we should see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. I think it relates to our class because it has both an imagination perspective as well as psychological. It also has a weird twist to it somewhat like magical realism.
Movie: Black Swan Theme: Imagination/Psychological Distortions/ I would recommend to watch this movie because it was just so vivid and captivating and it has a twisted plot. It has a awesome cast also (Natalie Portman/ Vincent Cassel/ Mila Kunis), and Natalie won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role. Natalie portays the character of Nina and she starts as a pure, innocent person, but to take the role of a big performance, she needs to get intouch with her darkside and is compelled to do things she wouldnt. The ending is AMAZIIIINNNNGG. :)
I have no idea about what kind of movie I should introduce. I spend less time in watching a movie. But I just saw one in these days. It's called-black swan. The movie about a dancer who do hard in dance and want her dream come ture.
American Psycho 2. This girl murders people and she takes the identity of someone she murders. Then later on she murders someone else and takes her identity too. This psycho girl goes around murdering people in order to get what she wants and ends up being successful in doing so.
Inception is a good movie to watch because at the end we are not sure what is real, and what really happened. Black Swan is also a good movie because the girl sees herself in other people, which is her imagination taking over her reality.
A good example of a movie would be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.One of the reasons it will be a good movie it shows you the imagination of people how far it can go. The Harry Potter movies always give you the magical twist and they also can be seem as a dream.
Taking the risk to suggest a movie that at least 15 other people will suggest as well, I think we should watch "Inception". The entire premise of the film was based upon the notion that your reality can be dynamically impacted by your dream world. Many films tackle these issue, but the reason I prefer this film over others is the fact the there is such a fine line between the real and dream world. So much so, that at times the viewer isn't sure which realm they are in. Even greater, the idea that someone in the "real world" can insert themselves into another's "dream world" in such a way to change the course of their reality is amazing.
I would reccommend Harvey. It deals with possible disillusionment. A mans powerful imagination makes social situations awkward and uncomfortable for others.
A movie I would want to watch would be black swan because even though I haven't watched it yet, it seems to show when she becomes more involved in ballet, she becomes more like Odile, the black swan. The white swan represents herself "innocent" and the black swan who is "sensual". This shows her different sides of her when shes in this ballet world.
I think that a good movie to watch in this class would be Pan's Laberinth. This movie fits the theme of the book perfectly because of the main character that i identify with Alice and how they are both living in a real world with fantisies in their minds

ReplyDeleteI would recommend the movie "A Beautiful Mind" because the movie is about a man's struggle with the development of paranoid schizophrenia.
ReplyDeleteI also recommend the movie " The Cell " its very weird but Jennifer Lopez goes into a dream and its imaginery in some ways.
