Extra Credit
Students may earn up to FOUR bonus points added to their final average through extra credit. Only 2 points can come from each kind of project.
1) Adaptations - Watch a film / theatrical performance / dance (or listen to an opera) based on one of the plays/novels we have read for class. Write a 3-page paper explaining the ways the adaptation transforms the original (what is added? what is removed?). Do you feel these changes add vitality to the original? ruin it? Explain your answer. (Worth 2 bonus points: essay must be at C-level or higher to earn credit)
2) Creative Option - Write a 5+-page short story or play - or a long poem or song - that explores themes from the texts we’ve read for class. Or provide a 10+ minute performance piece or one major (or 2 minor) works of art that does the same thing. Provide a “statement” of at least 1 page that explains the connection. Non-verbal versions require 2 page “artist’s statements.” (Worth 2 bonus points: statement must be at C-level or higher to earn credit)
